Linux Hosting (cPanel) Help

Recommended backup settings for databases

Note: Site Backup hasn’t been sold as a new product since January 2018. For our new backup solution, see What is Website Backup?

When you use Site Backups with your cPanel shared hosting account, you should exclude your MySQL databases from your website backups because Site Backups automatically creates separate backups for your databases.

If you don't exclude your databases from your website backups, you will create two identical backups of your databases, and both will count toward your Site Backup account's total storage space.

  1. Log in to Site Backup.
  2. In the Websites area, next to the site you're using, click Select Directories (Select Directories).
  3. In the Exclusions field, type .sql and then click Save.
